about

This is my pdf sheet music collection of traditional Irish folk tune arrangements. It also includes the demo recordings.

You can find out more about my arrangements at:
www.folkarrangements.co.uk

These arrangements of traditional Irish tunes can be played by many different ensembles.

They can be used as duets for two violinists, violin and viola or violin and cello, trios of different violin/viola/cello combinations, a string quartet or a larger group of musicians. They don't even all have to be string players - every arrangement includes at least one part that will fit on a flute or whistle.

This pack would suit anyone who wants to play harmonies along with traditional folk music. I originally wrote the harmonies as viola parts that would fit on the viola more comfortably than the melodies, which often go quite high. However, they have turned out more versatile than simply folk viola harmony parts, and could be used by teachers with pairs or small groups of students, fiddle orchestras, string quartets, ceilidh bands or groups of musicians who just want to play together casually for enjoyment.

I can make different transpositions if you want these harmonies to be transposed for a different instrument - just ask me if you want something in particular.

Each tune is arranged in four part harmony (melody, two harmony parts and a bass line) and presented in a variety of different formats:

* String quartet
* All harmonies in alto clef for viola
* All harmonies in treble clef for violin, mandolin, flute, recorder, accordion etc.
* All harmonies in bass clef, most suitable for cello range
* Two harmonies in treble clef, bass part in bass clef (e.g. for a fiddle/flute-based band with a piano player playing chords over a bass line)

In all the scores, the melody is printed in treble clef, and has chords written above it.

The harmonies are designed as building-blocks to be used within a larger arrangement, and don't need to all be played at the same time (although they can be). For a duet, the second player could alternate between playing different harmony parts to accompany the tune, for example, or a with a larger group, additional harmonies could be added each time the tune repeats.

For detailed information about what is included and who can play it, see:
